September 20, 2008: I came back home at 6.....was one of the last people getting out of the majestic Pakistan Television Building on the constitution avenue facing the most enigmatic edifices of the country . coming out of the gate, i noticed an unusually high accumulation of the security cars/trucks and the cops on the roads. About a couple of minutes before 8, when I was having tea with mom and dad, i felt the tremor. It was a terrible tremor...jolted us completely. Me and dad exchanged a look. And the Only word that I could utter was: Earthquake. The word was still at the tip of my tongue when we heard the most terrifying, deafening roar of a blast. It was mind numbing at first. For numerous seconds, no one could figure out what it was or what should be done about it. I saw Mom screaming at the top of her voice, wailing loudly; I found dad looking fretfully at the ceiling....as if it was coming off on us.... I could hear loud crashes and distant cries. Immediately, the sirens went off. They were the sirens of Police cars, of ambulances and medical aid, of fire brigade and the security alarms of the cars out in our street. over the trees at the end of the street, we could see smoke clouds rising up in the sky and a reddening sky reflecting the high flames.
Marriott Islamabad is about 3 minutes drive from my house, 30 seconds from my office. The place I love the most after my home. It was one of the most magnificent buildings of the capital.
There is always a long row of cars parked across the road from the main building throughout the stretch of the hotel on the other side. There area prominent government buildings on that side of the road. I pass that road that setting those cars several times a day. One of the first visuals on TV were those of smashed cars of that road side parking. It was squashed like anything. The fire in the hotel could not be controlled, the crystal ball room is now a 25 feet deep trench and the top floor of the building is nothing but rubble. In fact the whole area is nothing but a heap of rubble and ruins of buildings that represented the best of the country with a proud splendor. Marriott Hotel, Evacue Trust complex, Pakistan Television and FPSC.
No sane person can blame us for terrorism now. WE ARE THE VICTIMS. You dont arson your own house, you dont kill your own family and you certainly dont like hurting yourself. The question looming abve our heads is; Who benefits the most with the blasts, chaos and unrest in OUR country.....not us atleast.
Look no further for the answers.....
